Diane DiRito (Matt DiRito's Mom): MATT DIRITO KNOWS ALL ABOUT LIFE ON THE STAGE…AND ON THE ROAD. TIME ON THE POP EVIL TOUR BUS INSPIRED HIS CHARITY…STAR TREATMENTS.
Matt DiRito: Being in a position where I get attention for what I do on stage every night and on social media and all that goes, if I could take that spotlight or that attention that’s on me and divert it onto someone that actually needs the attention, that’s really the whole kind of premise behind it.
Diane: STAR TREATMENTS OFFERS SICK KIDS RIDES TO AND FROM THEIR DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS IN VIP LEVEL TRANSPORTATION. IT MIGHT BE A PLANE…LIMO…OR A TOUR BUS LIKE THE ONE HE TRAVELS IN.
Matt: I thought it’s a way for me to combine what I do here on the road with the buses, transportation, getting back and forth and I remember how cool it made me feel the first time we got on like a tour bus. We got to show up to places in a fancy ride.
Diane: FAMILIES FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ARE GETTING MATT’S STAR TREATMENT. JULIA FULMER HAS TRAVELED FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE MAYO CLINIC FOR TWO HIP REPLACEMENTS.
Matt: The Fulmer’s reached out to me awhile back and said their daughter had to have hip replacement. She’d been through her chemo treatments and everything and what she had was very hard on her joints. Her knees and her hips especially. They asked me if I could do airline tickets for them, something like first class seats so she could stretch her legs out and things like that. You know we dug into it and made it happen. We’ve arranged for the ground transportation back and forth between the hospitals the Mayo Clinic, so she can either be in a limo or a party bus with her family and have her legs stretched out so she doesn’t have to worry about straining that hip.
Julia: And oh my goodness, the first class ride made such a difference.
At first, this is kind of nice, I could get used to this. On the way home, I was like this really helps so much…this isn’t just for glamor, this is amazing!
Matt: You know what’s awesome? After they’ve had the experience, most of the parents will call me up or text me or email me and say “Oh my God, the whole way to the hospital all they could talk about was how excited they were for this, or how excited they were for that. And going to the hospital for their treatment was the last thing on their mind. That’s the idea.
